This summer we are marking a half-century of local goings-on with a new publication. Fitzrovia News: Celebrating 50 Years — a 60 page book — is available from outside Fitzrovia Community Centre in Foley Street and you can read it online. A big thanks to my colleagues Nick Bailey and Sue Blundell for trawling through the hefty archive to select the stories, to Westminster City Council for paying for it, and to Drew de Soto of Navig8 for producing it.
Fitzrovia News editors, contributors, and readers will be meeting between 1.15pm and 2pm at the King and Queen pub on the corner of Foley Street and Cleveland Street, during the Fitzrovia Fete 2023 on Sunday 13 August. Please join us. At the Fete there will be a special appearance by Pollock’s Toy Museum.
Benches are being removed from Whitfield Street outside Crabtree Fields and — rather alarmingly — Camden Council are considering a redesign of the park.
If you are still short of ideas for your children this summer our list of sources of activities might help.
Covid-19 remains a major threat, and long Covid is a global public health crisis. Please follow NHS advice to avoid catching and spreading the virus. Vaccination information is on Camden’s website and Westminster’s website.
London is in danger of a measles outbreak the UK Health Security Agency has warned due to low vaccination rates. The NHS has details about how to stay safe.
Our next email newsletter and a printed news-sheet will be out in early September. If you want to get in touch with us to tell us what you think of our reporting, have a question, or would like to contribute to Fitzrovia News please email us at news@fitzrovianews.com
Enjoy the summer!
