I report in an article in this issue that Westminster Council is to issue a “progress update” on the Oxford Street Programme with an exhibition at Regent Hall. I later attended the exhibition and came away disappointed at the lack of anything new to report. All that’s really happened is that work on Mortimer Street has started and the project is grinding on.
Camden’s campaign to “keep Fitzrovia clean” appears to be doomed to failure. Businesses and some residents it seems have responded to the initiative by hurling even more rubbish into the streets at all times of day.
Useful shops and services continue to disappear from Fitzrovia. This time it is a cycle sale and repair shop and two banks.
And we have the potential for noise nuisance from an application for another late night licensed premises. This time in Wells Street.
I wish we could have more historical features in Fitzrovia News, just like the old days... I do my best. Here’s a short one you may enjoy about a closed pub, and a long-time closed pub with an unusual name on Clipstone Street. Contributions of historical features would be appreciated. Please get in touch if you have an idea for a feature.
The UK Health Security Agency is still concerned about measles outbreaks in almost every area of England including London and is urging parents and carers to ensure their children are vaccinated. See the NHS website for more information.
Covid continues to remain a major threat, according to the WHO. Infections and hospital admissions in the UK have declined but the disease has damaging long term impacts. Please follow NHS advice to avoid catching and spreading the virus.

Our next printed news-sheet will be published in early April and will be available from outside Fitzrovia Community Centre, 2 Foley Street. See the newspaper archive for back issues of Fitzrovia News. We aim to produce a two-page, printed issue at least four times a year. Local weeklies the Camden New Journal and the Westminster Extra are also available outside the Community Centre and they also have an archive where you can view the full printed Camden and Westminster printed editions.
